On the 103rd Anniversary of the birth of  Dom Mintoff, the Hon. Carmelo Abela, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion  just launched a competition for the commissioning of a Work of Art, to commemorate the former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

Presently the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion is seeking artists interested in creating a work of art that honours the former Prime Minister of Malta and Minister of Foreign Affairs.  This Work of Art will be placed in a prominent Hall dedicated to the memory of Dom Mintoff at the Ministry’s head office at Palazzo Parisio in Valletta.  The Dom Mintoff Hall already features an imposing chandelier which was a diplomatic gift of the Italian Government when Malta first established its Foreign Affairs Ministry.  The same Hall is also adorned with various prestigious paintings amongst which is a painting from the Bottega of Mattia Preti.  The  Supper at Emmaus features Christ and his disciples and it is thought that the central figure is the work of the great 17th centrury artist himself.

Artists and designers are invited to express their interest to participate in this competition. The proposed Work of Art has to be of the highest calibre possible and is to encapsulate the persona of the Statesman as well as his philosophy and contributions in the international fora.

The selected project will go through the implementation process under the direction of the awarded  artist with the support of an intra-ministerial Committee. The selected artist will be awarded € 2000 on completion of the Work of Art. The award carries with it prestige and exposure for the artist since it will be permanently exhibited in a hall frequented by international diplomats and high profile personalities.

Submissions can be made by not later than Friday 29th November 2019.
