Presentation of Credentials

On 15 October 2019, H.E. Mr Dionisio Vella presented his Letters of Credentials as non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to the Republic of South Africa to H.E. Mr Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, at the Sefako M Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria.

Ambassador Vella was greeted by the Presidential Guard and he conveyed to President Ramaphosa the greetings of The President of Malta, H.E. George W. Vella. Following the Presentation of Credentials, Ambassador Vella communicated Malta’s readiness to strengthen further ties between the two countries and their peoples.

While in South Africa, Ambassador Vella held meetings with senior officials at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs including with Ambassador Martin Slabber responsible for South Africa's relations with European and Mediterranean countries, with the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Science and Innovation, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, with the Head of the EU Delegation in South Africa. Meetings were also held at the International School for Diplomatic Training and at the Department of Trade and Industry and with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Ambassador Vella was also interviewed by Ubuntu Radio, a South African radio station dedicated to public diplomacy, where relations between Malta and South Africa were discussed.

During the visit, Ambassador Vella who was accompanied by Mr. David Muscat, Counsellor at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion also met with Dr Danilo Ghirlando, Consul of Malta to Johannesburg.
