H.E. Mr Joseph Theuma presents his Credentials as the new Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to the State of Qatar

On 23 September 2019, H.E. Mr Joseph Theuma presented his Letters of Credence to H.H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Thani, Deputy Amir of the State of Qatar, as Malta’s newly accredited Ambassador to the State of Qatar. The ceremony took place in the Amiri Diwan of the State of Qatar, located in Doha.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Thani welcomed H.E. Mr Joseph Theuma to the post of Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to the State of Qatar and lauded the excellent relations between Qatar and Malta. He remarked that such ties have always been excellent and cordial, both at a bilateral and international level. H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Thani expressed his hope that during H.E. Mr Joseph Theuma’s tenure as Ambassador, the two countries would be able to enhance bilateral relations, and particularly explore new avenues of political and economic cooperation. He observed that the establishment of a direct flight between the two countries would facilitate such an enhancement of relations. H.E. Mr Joseph Theuma’s assured H.H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Thani, Deputy Amir of the State of Qatar, that he shared such objectives, and that he will do his utmost to improve on the excellent relations that already characterise the relationship between the two countries. Ambassador Theuma and H.H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Thani also expressed a common objective to increase people-to-people contacts between the populations of both States, and to intensify cultural cooperation between the States.

Ambassador Theuma highlighted Malta’s geographically strategic position as a connection point between Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, and emphasised that this made Malta an attractive destination for the State of Qatar to develop and expand links with these respective regions on the political, cultural and economic level.

During H.E. Mr Joseph Theuma’s visit to Doha, a bilateral meeting was also held with H.E Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi and Director of Department of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro.

Ambassador Theuma was accompanied by Andrea De Bono Sant Cassia, Second Secretary at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion of the Republic of Malta.​
