Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion Carmelo Abela announced that the Ministry’s annual Official Development Assistance (ODA) Call for Proposals for development projects which are to be implemented on an international level, in their majority in Africa shall be launched in the coming weeks.

Minister Abela said that achieving the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) worldwide, requires more than money and the private sector has an important role to play in securing economic growth and development. Hence, the Ministry is encouraging  partnerships between civil society and the business sector.

Minister Abela underlined that national grants would still be entirely channelled to the NGOs who would be the implementers of the projects. Minister Abela was speaking at a networking session organised for the Ministry for Non-Government Organisations working in the field of international development and for members of the business community who are active in the African continent.

Minister Abela stated that the NGOs have essential knowledge and know-how on development projects and contacts from the local community, while the private sector has the financial and human resources to supplement the potential of the projects and thus increase the impact of our collective efforts.

Assistant Director for International Development and Economic matters, Ms Leonie Aquilina, during the session stated that, as part of the ongoing efforts in the field of International Development, the Ministry issues a yearly ODA Call for Proposals for development projects which are implemented in Africa. The call is open to locally registered NGOs working in the field of international development.

The session was well attended and provided an opportunity for the NGOs and the private sector to discuss possible avenues of cooperation for development projects in Africa amongst other countries.

The call will be open to locally registered NGOs working in the field of international development.
