Simon Schembri triumphs in Washington D.C.

The Embassy of Malta in cooperation with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the 2017 Maltese EU Council Presidency organised a concert entitled ‘A Mediterranean Arpeggio’ by the acclaimed Maltese guitarist Simon Schembri.  The concert was held at the prestigious Kennedy Center in Washington DC on the 4 of April 2017.

The concert was held to mark Malta’s Presidency of the EU Council.  The concert was a remarkable success with more than 500 people turning up in person at the Kennedy Center and more than 5500 following via Facebook Live.  The concert was also webcast live on the official website of the Kennedy Center.

Simon Schembri gave his best with a very demanding programme which included works by the Maltese Composer Mizzi as well as works by international composers such as Francesco Tarrega, Isaac Albeniz, and several others. Schembri showed his mastery and seduced the impressive crowed which expressed its appreciation with two standing ovations.

The Kennedy Center edged on the Potomac River close to the Mall in Washington DC and named after one of the most admired Presidents of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, is one of the top performing arts centres in the world.
