Chairmanship of the EU Local Consular Cooperation group in New Delhi

Reference Number:  , Press Release Issue Date: Jun 16, 2017
As part of the Maltese Presidency of the EU Council, Malta’s High Commission in New Delhi took on the chairmanship of the Local Consular Cooperation working group in the Indian capital. The meetings, held on a monthly basis, were chaired by First Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission Andrew Caruana Galizia. The main theme throughout Malta’s chairmanship of the consular group was crisis preparedness, with a draft EU Joint Crisis Preparedness Framework for India to be completed by the end of June. The group also exchanged information on shared consular interests in India, such as safety of travellers, pre-trial detention, prison conditions and adoptions. Malta’s chairmanship of the group received the full support of the EU Delegation as well as the Dutch and Slovakian consuls as members of Malta’s EU Council Presidency trio.
