United Nations Security Council Open Debate on Upholding the United Nations Charter to Maintain International Peace and Security 13 January 2020

On 13 January, Malta participated in the United Nations Security Council open debate entitled ‘Upholding the United Nations Charter to Maintain International Peace and Security’. This debate was organised by the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in her capacity as President of the Security Council.


In a statement delivered by H.E. Vanessa Frazier, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Malta to the United Nations, Malta highlighted the importance and relevance of the UN Charter in the contemporary world, as it provides a common safety net for relations among states in the pursuit of peace and security. Malta reiterated her strong support for the multilateral system, and her determination to continue working towards strengthening it.


Malta concluded by stating that global issues require global solutions, and that the international community needs to revitalise and refocus its efforts to secure lasting solutions through multilateralism, which remains the best way to advance national and collective interests.
