Informal Interactive Dialogue with the candidate for the President of the 74th Session of the General Assembly

On Monday 13 May the Permanent Representative of Malta to the United Nations participated in an Interactive Dialogue with the candidate for the position of President of the 74th Session of the General Assembly, the Permanent Representative of Nigeria H E Tijjani Mohammad Bande. The dialogue was presided by the incumbent President of the General  Assembly  Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces. H E Tijjani Bande  presented his priorities and vision for the forthcoming Session which he would be leading and offered Member States the opportunity to make comments, ask questions and engage in a frank discussion of the challenges ahead.

Ambassador Carmelo Inguanez, Permanent Representative of Malta to the United Nations offered the support of Malta not only as a member State but also in its position as one of the Vice Presidents of the General Assembly, if elected. Referring to the opening statement of Ambassador Tijjani Bande , Ambassador Inguanez affirmed that the United Nations organisation is the only global governance organisation in the world and added that within it, the General Assembly is the most representative, most egalitarian and represents the epitome of the multilateralism.  He asserted that this is why it is important to strengthen the role of the General Assembly through action oriented responses to present day challenges.
