Malta’s new non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia,
Ms Natasha Meli Daudey, presented her Letters of Credence to President Serzh
Sargsyan, on Wedensday 7 February 2018. Ambassador Meli Daudey is resident in
Warsaw.
During a private audience, President Sargsyan and Ambassador
both stressed that the 25th anniversary of establishment of
diplomatic bi-lateral relations, to be marked later on this year, should be
used as the occasion to give an impetus to the already friendly relations
between the two countries and to promote cooperation in different spheres.
In the wake of the signing of the bilateral Agreement on Cooperation
in the Field of Culture, signed by the two Ministers of Foreign Affairs in
December 2017, Ambassador suggested that discussions start shortly in order to
launch the cooperation in this field.
The two also agreed that the Parliamentary dimension was an
important vehicle for the strengthening and deepening of relations between the
two countries. Ambassador welcomed the
formation of the Maltese friendship group on the Armenian side.
Reference was also made to the signing of the EU-Armenia
Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement. President Sargsyan expressed Armenia’s
willingness to embark on the implementation of the Agreement and in this
context hoped that the Maltese Parliament will proceed towards an early
ratification. Ambassador commended
Armenia on its efforts and expressed Malta’s willingness to continue supporting
and engaging with Armenia within the context of the European Union.
During her visit to Yerevan Ambassador Meli Daudey also held
meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Edward Nalbandian to whom she
presented her copies d’usage, the
President of the National Assembly, Mr Ara Babloyan, the Minister of Culture Mr
Armen Amiryan, the advisor to the President on International Cooperation Mr
Armen B. Smbatyan, and the Director responsible for European Affairs within the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Gagik Galachyan. Other meetings were held on possible cultural
cooperation.
The Honorary of Consul of Malta, Mr Artur Aleksanyan, assisted
the Ambassador during the visit.
