EU Heads of Mission working lunch with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary of State for European Affairs of Portugal

The Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs Augusto Santos Silva and the Secretary of State for European Affairs Ms. Margaria Marques attended the last working lunch meeting of the Maltese Presidency to the Council of the European Union that was hosted by the Embassy of Malta in Lisbon on 26 th June, 2017 at the Corinthia Hotel Lisbon.

During the meeting, the Charge d'Affaires Mr. Walter Mallia highlighted some of the achievements that were acquired during the Maltese Presidency in the last six months.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, who praised the work done during the Maltese Presidency, spoke about the good news for the EU and mentioned the current economic recovery in Europe, the increasing lack of political space for xenophobia and populism, European unity, and the future of Europe.

Mr. Mallia thanked the guests of honour and all EU and Ambassadors in Lisbon who have attended regularly for these working lunches during the last six months.

He symbolically handed over the continuity of these Presidency functions to his successor the Ambassador of Estonia in Lisbon H.E. Andres Rundu and wished him well with the organisation of these events during the next six months.
