Embassy of Malta in Cairo hosts lunch for the Egyptian Minister for Planning, Monitoring and Administrative Reform and Resident Ambassadors

On the 18th of May, the Embassy of Malta in Egypt hosted a lunch at a hotel in Cairo for HE Dr Hala El Saied, Minister for Planning, Monitoring and Administrative Reform, as well as resident Ambassadors from the European Economic Area and Candidate Countries. This event was organised by the Embassy in its role as the representative of Malta’s Presidency of the EU Council in Egypt.

In his welcoming speech, HE Charles Sultana, Malta’s Ambassador in Cairo, referred to the priorities of the Maltese Presidency and to the support which the European Union (EU) provides to reforms in Egypt. Ambassador Sultana described the Ministry for Planning, Monitoring and Administrative Reform as having been a change agent for several years since it plays a very significant role in the formulation and implementation of these reforms.

Minister El Saied replied by first thanking the Maltese Embassy for organising the event and then proceeded to give an overview of the functions carried out by her Ministry. She specifically referred to the administrative reforms being implemented and to the importance of promoting inclusive economic growth. The EU is facilitating these reforms by providing technical assistance and training as well as exchanging best practices.

During the Q&A session held after the Minister finished her speech several of those present asked questions about a wide variety of subjects.​
