The Ambassador

Dr Albert Friggieri was born in Lija, Malta. He holds degrees from the universities of Malta, Heidelberg (Germany) and Exeter (UK). He was a teacher and part-time university lecturer of German in Malta for many years. He was active in the tourism industry and in the management of one of Malta’s leading hotels for seven years. After a short period in the diplomatic service, in 1988 he set up a manufacturing company in Malta, a subsidiary of a German firm operating internationally, which he managed for twenty-five years. He was elected to the Board of the Federation of Industry, was a Board member of MDC and METCO, and served as president of the German-Maltese Circle for five years. He was awarded the German Federal Cross of Merit in 1999 “for fostering German-Maltese friendship through his work in the fields of culture, science and the economy”. Dr Albert Friggieri is married to Catherine Noelie Bertucat and they have two children. Dr Friggieri presented his credentials as Malta’s ambassador to Federal President Joachim Gauck on 6 September 2013.
