Ambassador Dr Albert Friggieri presented the programme of the Maltese EU Council Presidency and answered questions about Malta’s priorities during a two-hour briefing organised by the European Movement of Germany (EBD) in Berlin. 240 persons filled the main hall at the premises of the Representation of the European Commission in the German capital where the session, entitled “European Policies during the Maltese EU Council Presidency”, was held.

Richard Kuehnel, Head of the Commission’s representation office in Germany, introduced the subject and spoke about the challenges facing the European Union.  It was then Ambassador Friggieri’s turn to explain Malta’s programme and priorities. Dr. Peter Ptassek, Deputy Director for Strategic Coordination in the European Union section of the Federal Foreign Office, and Klaus-Peter Leyer, Head of EU policies in the Federal Ministry for the Economy and Energy, commented about Malta’s programme and the ambassador’s speech. The vice-president of the European Movement of Germany, Axel Schäfer, an SPD member of the German Parliament, underlined the very critical phase that the EU is going through and appealed to all present to contribute actively to defend European values and the EU’s achievements. The session, which included a forty-minute question and answer section, was moderated by Mr. Bernd Hüttemann, Secretary General of the European Movement of Germany.
