Today’s edition of the Austrian daily newspaper Heute featured the Maltese crib, currently on exhibition in Vienna, as one of the main attractions to be visited during this Christmas weekend. This daily has a readership that exceeds half a million.

Tens of thousands of Austrians and tourists have already had the opportunity to visit this traditional life-size Maltese Crib that is currently on exhibition at the University Campus Christmas Village in Vienna.  The official inauguration took place on 15 November 2019 in the presence of His Excellency the President of Malta, George Vella; the Minister of Justice, Culture and Local Government, the Hon. Owen Bonnici; and the Mayor of Vienna, Mr Michael Ludwig, with the participation of Kor Malta.

This is the third time that the Maltese Crib is being showcased outside of Malta, after having been exhibited at the Vatican in 2016, in Bethlehem in 2017, and in Valletta in 2018. The exhibition of the Crib in Vienna was made possible thanks to the initiative of the Embassy of Malta in Vienna and the Directorate of Culture, in close collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority.  This cultural diplomacy initiative received the full support of the highest Authorities of Vienna, who were instrumental in finding an adequate prime location for the crib.

During the past month the crib managed to capture the attention the Austrian media. It received wide coverage by both the written press as well as Austrian television and radios.  Interviews with His Excellency the President of Malta were also broadcast on ORF, Austria’s national TV and Radio Arabella, the partner Radio of the Christmas Village and one of the main Austrian radios.

The Crib will remain on exhibition until 23 December 2019, the day the Christmas Village will close.
