Reference Number:  , Press Release Issue Date: Oct 05, 2018

On 29th September 2018, the Embassy of Malta in Vienna, together with Maltese composer Dr.  Reuben Pace organised a solo classical guitar concert at the Musikverein. This concert was made possible through the Cultural Diplomacy Fund of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion.

The concert, which featured music from Austria and Malta, from the 18th century to the present day was performed by Dr. Johanna Beisteiner, one of the leading international Austrian solo classical guitarists.  The program included compositions by Austrian composer Anton Diabelli (Sonata Nr. 1 for guitar Opus. 129), the late Charles Camilleri (African Sketches), and the soloist herself (Don Quijote Fantasy on a ballet by Minkus).  The highlight of the concert was the world premiere of ‘Mdina Suite’ by Maltese international composer Dr. Reuben Pace.

This Cultural Diplomacy event was successful in showcasing Malta’s musical heritage in one of the most prestigious classical music locations in Europe and in enhancing the musical cultural ties between Malta and Austria.
