Russia and Malta: A Dialogue of Cultures

Moscow, 17 July 2019 —— The state of the Russo-Maltese relations was the subject of a lecture given by the Ambassador of Malta to the Russian Federation, Pierre Clive Agius, in Moscow City. The lecture which was followed by a discussion, was organised by The Association of Young Parliamentarians of the Russian Federation. 

The lecture started with a historical perspective of the bilateral political and diplomatic relations and their development until the current time.  The contributions Malta made to the international community, the strengthening of bilateral relations, Russo-Maltese cooperation in culture and science as well as the main challenges facing the international community were also discussed at this event.

The audience which was largely made up of young Russian parliamentarians, federal civil servants and students of international relations participated actively and brought up several issues during the discussion.  The issues ranged from the role of Malta in the European Union to international political challenges such as the rise of populism, racism, migration and weapons control.

Ambassador Agius was accompanied by Mr. Jean Paul Gatt, the Deputy Head of Mission and Consul of Malta in Moscow.

The event was held in Moscow City, the financial hub of the Russian Capital.
