High Commissioner of Malta visits Edinburgh to mark Malta's Presidency of the Council of the EU

The High Commissioner of Malta HE Norman Hamilton visited Scotland from 27 – 29 June 2017 to attend events marking Malta's Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce organised a business event at the beginning of which the High Commissioner welcomed those attending. Peter Paul Meli, Malta Enterprise representative in the UK delivered a presentation on Scotland-Malta trade and investment post-Brexit.

The High Commissioner gave a lecture on 'Meeting Europe's Challenges: Malta's Perspective' at the Edinburgh University European Union Society, which was followed by a Q&A session well attended by students and academics.

A reception was held at the Scottish Parliament. Maltese duo Bettina and Philippa Cassar, known as The New Victorians, performed at this event. The reception was attended by members of the Consular Corps, Members of the Scottish Parliament as well as members of the Maltese community in Scotland amongst others.

The High Commissioner was invited to give evidence to the Culture, Tourism, Europe and External Relations Committee at the Scottish Parliament. He presented on the achievements of Malta during its Presidency of the Council of the EU and then answered a number of questions relevant to his evidence.

The visit in Scotland came to an end with a meeting with Alasdair Allan, the Scottish Parliament's Minister for External Relations and Europe.
