meeting organized by the Consulate General of Malta for the Heads of Missions,
representing EU countries, serving in Istanbul, was held recently in the
Library of the Goethe Institute. This was the second of a series being held under
Malta’s Presidency of the Council of the
speaker for this meeting was Ambassador Christian Berger, Head of the European
Union Delegation in Ankara and Ms Kasia Lach, Head of Migration Policy, within
this meeting, chaired by Mr Franklin Aquilina, Consul General of Malta in
Istanbul, relations between Turkey and the European Union were discussed at
length, as well as regional issues and issues where both sides are working
together, such as migration and humanitarian assistance to the Syrian refugees.
consistent message during Ambassador Berger’s interventions was the willingness
of the European Union to work with Turkey on all aspects, in mutual respect.
Berger and Consuls General present expressed their appreciation towards Malta’s Presidency for bringing
together an informative meeting and a distinguished guest. Such meetings help bringing
EU Member States’ representatives in Istanbul closer to the EU Delegation,
which, at the end, provides a more coherent representation of the bloc.
