Maltese Lecturer of Humanitarian Action delivers lecture in Palestine

On Wednesday 5 April 2017, Dr Maria Pisani, Lecturer of Humanitarian Action in the Department of Youth & Community Studies, Faculty for Social Wellbeing in the University of Malta delivered a lecture titled “Can the gadfly speak? Critical Reflections from Malta” at an NGO called REFORM - the Palestinian Association for Empowerment and Local Development which operates in Ramallah, Palestine. Dr Pisani was invited to lecture at the REFORM, Innovation Hub in Ramallah by the General Manager of REFORM, Mr Oday Abu Karsh and the  Public Relations and Communications Officer of REFORM, Ms Ahlam Taweel through a request from the Representative of the Republic of Malta in Ramallah, Palestine, Mr Reuben Gauci, who was also present at the lecture.    

During her interactive talk, Dr Pisani spoke about  her experience working with NGOs, her  involvement in the UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees) Global Youth Consultations, her role with refugee integration in Malta and her experience in supporting the NGO Spark 15, which is made up of  a group of young refugees with a clear objective to encourage other young refugees to become active participants and agents of inclusive societies in Malta, and beyond. Spark 15 was officially launched by the President of the Republic of Malta, H.E. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca in March 2017.

Dr Maria Pisani visited Palestine for an academic trip on an Erasmus Exchange Project between the University of Malta and the University of Birzeit in Palestine and was on a lecturing tour at the Birzeit University, in Birzeit limits of Ramallah.​
