Last EU Heads of Missions meeting under the Maltese Presidency, in Istanbul

During the last days of June 2017, Mr Franklin Aquilina, Consul General of Malta in Istanbul, organized and chaired the last EU Heads of Missions Meeting under the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

For this meeting, Ambassador Christian Berger, Head of the EU Delegation, Ankara, participated once again as the main guest. Ambassador Berger gave an overview of the EU-Turkey relations in the wake of the Constitutional Referendum, held on 16 April 2017, with an emphasis on the Informal Foreign Ministers Meeting, which was held in Malta in late April 2017. Reference was also made to the number of high level meetings that were consequently held in Brussels, between Turkey and the EU and to upcoming high level meetings planned for the following weeks, in Ankara.

Other issues, such as the Refugee Crises, matters of Human Rights, Justice and the Rule of Law, were also referred to during this gathering. Towards the end of this meeting, Ambassador Berger engaged in a Q&A session with Consuls General present.

The meeting, which was held at the Tophane Room of the Park Bosphorus Hotel, Istanbul, was followed by the traditional lunch at the Izaka Rooftop Restaurant of the same hotel.
